Clear Title
– a title that can be sold free
and clear of any disputes. A
general warranty deed must be
clear of any disputes. Upon
receiving a tax deed at a tax
sale, it is not usually a clear
title, because most states allow
for a legal dispute period of
one to two years. During this
period, a previous owner,
mortgage company or interested
third party could contest the
sale in court.
